Q1. Please introduce yourself.
Hey! My name is Louis Aaron Krol, and I am a 25-year-old international exchange student from Germany, studying for a master’s degree in the Netherlands! I love traveling, doing sports, and learning. Here, I am taking Master of Business Administration (MBA) courses, and outside the university, I play tennis, go surfing, or watch darts, an underestimated sport!
Q2. Why did you choose Korea and SKKU?
The choice to come to Korea was a bit unexpected – like most of the choices in my life! When I was applying, there was a traffic light system indicating which countries were safer for students to visit during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Korea was one of the few countries outside of Europe with a green traffic light. Therefore, I applied to its most beautiful and historical university, and of course, here I am, at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU)! I got right into the vibe of Seoul almost as soon as I arrived.
Q3. How is your life at SKKU?
I think I found the ideal balance between bonding with other international students, getting to know Korean friends, and learning about what life might be like in Korea after graduation. It is especially relevant as I ponder my upcoming graduation and future plans. Life at SKKU is excellent with its outstanding infrastructure and ambitious people. I spent a lot of time in the Graduate School of Business (GSB) building to work on my master’s thesis. There I made friends with domestic and international students, with whom I frequently go out to eat, sing karaoke, or stroll along the Hangang River.
Q4. Is there anything in particular that you want to achieve at SKKU this year?
I want to learn as much as I can about Korean culture, especially work culture, to make wise decisions about my future. It may also be a piece of advice for other students: Life on campus is wonderful, but I think there are other facets of life in Korea that are worthwhile knowing about and could match one’s interests and goals.
