Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) held the Private Case Law Studies Forum on February 25th. The event was founded in the late 1980s and owns the longest tradition among Korean case law research groups. Since its beginning, researchers who majored in civil law and professors of SKKU have been promoting solidarity and research together. However, due to the pandemic, holding proper offline meetings for the last three years was impossible. Finally, just before the start of 2023’s first semester, numerous researchers, legal professionals, and civil law professors from SKKU and various universities attended the forum. Professor Im Geon-myeon, who has served as the SKKU chairman for the past four years, presented the direction for developing the Civil Law Case Studies Forum at this meeting. After introducing the law school system, Prof. Im emphasized the importance of fostering excellent young civil law researchers and told how SKKU should act as an incubator for them. Many forum members gathered opinions and shared each other’s interests to build the next generation of legal studies. This research forum was co-hosted by the Institute of East Asian Law and Politics under the Law School. Researchers also gave presentations about topics including the Land Boundary Adjustment Plan. Professor Kim Chun-soo was also nominated as the next chairperson of the forum. For SKKU to be the most prestigious law school, active research by civil law professors and doctoral students is expected from the forum.
