Q1. Please introduce yourself.
Hi, my name is Linh, and I am 20 years old. I am a Vietnamese international student at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), majoring in Global Business Administration. I have been in Korea for two years now. Although the first semester of SKKU was online, I am enjoying my life in Korea a lot more now that the classes are offline.
Q2 Why did you choose Korea and SKKU?
I have always wanted to leave Vietnam and experience somewhere new, but SKKU is the real reason why I am here. I once visited Korea for a short time during high school and decided to come back in 2021. When I looked into reputable schools worldwide, the opportunities SKKU provides were incomparable. My international program offers courses in full English, one of the unique merits offered by SKKU. Also, the academic schedule is so much better here. In Vietnam, a summer vacation lasts only about a month, whereas the break lasts for three months here. I did not know this before coming, so it was a very pleasant surprise. Overall, I appreciate the opportunities and freedom Korea has given me.
Q3. How is your life at SKKU?
I am enjoying my life here at SKKU. When I first came, everything was online because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and I felt very purposeless. Now that offline classes are back, I have made many good friends, which made a huge difference. I always had the mentality that I would not be able to fit in because I am an international student. But these days, I have made a lot of friends who have changed that impression. I feel I would not have been able to do this in my first year, but now I am enjoying my school life a lot more.
Q4. If you could bring one aspect of Korea back home with you, which would it be and why?
It would be how people present themselves here. I especially love the formal language and how Korean people care about the way they come off to other people. Although I realize it might be a bit of pressuring, the way they talk and the way they present themselves is very admiring. I like how everyone cares about being respectful to themselves and others. People in Korea have that figured out, and I would love to bring that quality to myself.
