Q1. Please introduce yourself.
Hi, I am Wénqí Xiè from China. I am majoring in Library and Information Science, and double majoring in Public Interest and Law at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU). In 2020, I came to Korea and studied Korean for 10 months at the Sungkyun Language Institute (SLI). Then, I entered SKKU in 2022. In the upcoming year, I plan to stay committed to my studies and look for opportunities regarding exchange programs and entrepreneurship.
Q2. Why did you choose Korea and SKKU?
Korea’s innovative approach to technology and its strong emphasis on education were the main factors that attracted me. Also, SKKU is the oldest university in Korea and has made a lot of achievements and progress in the field of humanities. The comprehensive programs regarding Library and Information Science at SKKU aligned perfectly with my academic goals. I also felt the opportunity to immerse myself in the Korean language and culture was compelling.
Q3. How is your life at SKKU?
Life at SKKU has been an enriching and transformative experience. As an international student, I initially faced challenges adapting to a new environment. However, the warmth and support from the faculty members and fellow students soon made me feel at home. Also, engaging in various student organizations and events has allowed me to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and broaden my horizons. Studying at SKKU has not only enhanced my academic knowledge but also given me valuable life skills and unforgettable memories.
Q4. What experience at SKKU inspired you the most, and what did you learn from it?
In 2022, I won a gold medal in the online Korean Speech Contest held at SKKU. Preparing for this contest strengthened my language skills and inspired me to understand the importance of cross-cultural communication. Moreover, SKKU introduced me to amazing friends worldwide. We studied, dined, explored together, and created unforgettable memories. In retrospect, it almost feels like destiny guided me to SKKU. I am grateful for the choice I made three years ago, which led me to this nurturing environment. These moments at SKKU taught me to step out of my comfort zone and seize opportunities in life.
