The 25th World Scout Jamboree was held from August 1st to 12th in Saemangeum, Korea. The Jamboree is a worldwide youth camp held every four years by the World Organization of the Scout Movement to share cultural exchanges and build international friendships. The 25th Jamboree was designed for the scouts to unfold everything they desire and make their dreams bigger under the theme of “Draw Your Dream.” However, contrary to its purpose, the camp became a total disaster for all those concerned. One of the biggest problems was that hundreds of participants fell ill from the baking heat of the campsite, where the daytime temperature reached about 40°C. Over 400 people complained of heat-related symptoms such as heat exhaustion on the first day, and the number of patients increased sharply thereafter. Another problem that occurred during the camp was the attack of insects, as many participants suffered from severe skin rashes and blisters caused by insect bites. Aside from these, there were numerous other complaints from the participants, such as serving spoiled food to the participants and providing facilities of unhygienic conditions. Although the motto of the scouts is “Be Prepared,” the 25th Jamboree turned out to be the worst nightmare for everyone involved due to various interruptions and underprepared events.
