Q1. Please introduce yourself.
Hello! I am Wu Peifeng from Guangxi, China. Guangxi is a small city in the southern region of China, famous for its tropical climate and the karst landscape which is characterized by unique caves. I came to Korea in 2018 and am now a senior studying in the Department of Economics at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU).
Q2. Why did you choose Korea and SKKU?
Before graduating high school, I had not thought about studying abroad. However, after graduation, I changed my mind and decided to apply for a school outside my home country. The reason why I chose Korea was its close distance to China, so I could travel home whenever I wanted to. When deciding what university to apply to, I looked at the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings, where I found out that SKKU was a high-ranked institution. Specifically, the high ranking of the Department of Economics at SKKU, among other universities, made it easier to finalize my decision. Considering these advantages, I applied to SKKU, and fortunately, I was accepted.
Q3. How is your life at SKKU?
I spend hectic days running around the campus to get to lectures on time, trying to get at least 15 credits every semester. Regarding the subjects related to my major, the hardest thing for me is fully understanding the material because of the language barrier. Economics, which often uses English, is a struggle for me as I am not a perfect English speaker. However, I find joy in the relaxing moments in my life that I spend with my friends, searching for delicious food at the restaurants near the campus.
Q4. Is there a message for your past self who is just about to start her journey abroad?
I want to tell her that believing in herself and finding comfort will make anything possible, even overcoming the most demanding challenges. I would also like to say that studying abroad here in Korea would definitely be a turning point. Before I came to Korea, I lived a peaceful and stable life with my family and had nothing to worry about. Therefore, moving to Korea itself was a huge step forward for me. Using this experience as my starting point, I want to start exploring the world more, trying diverse activities — traveling around the world and learning different languages — without hesitance.
