The Possibility of the Cancellation of the Tokyo Olympics That Has Already Been Postponed Once
A Consideration of Tokyo Olympics (yna.co.kr)

On February 19th, the Group of Seven (G7) leaders gave their support for the commitment of Japan to hold the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics in a safe and secure manner; however, there are still worries hitting the Olympics. Tokyo 2020, which was intended to be held this year, has already been postponed once from July 24th, 2020, to July 23rd, 2021, due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). According to a survey conducted by Tokyo Shoko Research from February 1st to 8th, more than 56% of Japanese firms still showed adverse reactions about holding the Tokyo Olympics, supporting that the Olympics should be postponed or canceled. As the number of confirmed cases in Japan exceeded 417,000, and vaccine supply is unstable, there are also criticisms about whether the medical team already facing limitations could take responsibility for quarantine management of people participating in the Olympics. Mounting worries over the Olympics and the cancellation fear are devastating athletes who have been endeavoring to train hard for the past five years. According to Today’s interviews, the US gymnastics athlete Simone Biles said she is hoping the Olympics could still be held, even if it means they are required to live and train in a bubble.
