On April 16th, Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) held the opening ceremony of the ICT Research and Education Foundation, which aims at nurturing information and communications technology (ICT) creativity and Artificial Intelligence (AI) experts for future innovation. The purpose of this foundation is to foster creative convergent talent to respond to current and future changes within 10 years. For the project, the university, private companies, and the government are going to contribute a combined total of 40 billion won. Only SKKU and Korea University were selected for the foundation in August, 2020. There are two goals for the ICT Research and Education Foundation: researching for AI and Super Intelligence, and specialized training based on computer and electronic engineering. Super Intelligence refers to a machine intelligence surpassing not only standard AI technology but also human perception and logic inference ability. In short, it aims at developing a technology that has never existed in our society. SKKU also plans to produce about 380 ICT technology professionals through this foundation. For that specifically, SKKU established the Department of Super Intelligence in the graduate school in September, 2020.
