On April 25th, You Hye-jin and Park Ji-seon performed a traditional dance in Duri Theatre, located in Seochogu, Seoul. They are currently senior researchers in the Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) Confucius Art Culture Content Research Institute. They are currently studying the restoration of Munmyoilmu, a Confucian Shrine Ritual Dance from the Goguryeo Dynasty, following their academic adviser, Lim Hak-sun, a Professor of the Department of Dance at SKKU. Five traditional dances were performed on April 25th, and among those five performances, Munmyoilmu was the one that they both participated in. Munmyoilmu is a dance that shows the possibility of being internationalized with its compressed beauty, unique music with fluid dance movements, and variations in the genre. This traditional dance also has a long history since Confucian scholars studying at Sungkyunkwan from the Joseon Dynasty danced this as well. This performance was intended to portray a concept of ‘outstanding talent,’ and two dancers successfully presented their brilliant skills and talents. Therefore, this stage sufficiently proved the bright vision and future of traditional dance, and upcoming performances are highly anticipated.
