On October 25th, the KT internet service was paralyzed for 89 minutes. This event received a lot of criticism since it happened due to a careless inspection system of the company. The network outage occurred around lunchtime on October 25th when they were exchanging a network communication path setting in Busan. The work was originally planned to be done from 1:00 am to 6:00 am, when people were not using the network so much; however, due to a schedule change, a great number of people felt the impact of the outage at around midday. During the communication blackout, a lot of people, especially many business owners, felt the huge inconvenience. For example, the owners of restaurants or cafés usually get a lot of profit during lunchtime. However, due to the network outage at noon, they could not earn money, and this had a big impact on their sales. Therefore, on November 1st, KT announced that they will reduce the telecommunication fee in December. Personal users will get 1,000 won reduced, and businesses will get 8,000 won reduced. Still, this policy is controversial due to the small amount, which is less than a part-time worker’s hourly wage. Regarding this situation, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KT, Ku Hyeon-mo, announced that KT will try its best to prevent recurrence and recover the belief in the company’s services.
