Kingos must be tired of pulling all-nighters every day due to the midterm exams. Some of you might be binge-watching lectures from the last eight weeks, blaming your past-self; however, let’s do some positive thinking. Last-minute cramming may come up trumps.
First, you might end up with a better result. There have been various occasions at the Sungkyun Times (SKT) in which we have to rewrite an entire article due to unexpected factors such as a change in governmental policies. Nevertheless, they sometimes turn out to be even better. Second, procrastinating motivates you to work harder. When given a long period of time to write a news story, I was often unable to focus on it and easily got distracted. On the other hand, tight deadlines make sure that I keep focused, making me afraid that I will not make it on time. Third, you feel very pleased when the final outcome is good. Every editor-in-chief of the SKT has to proofread the entire draft of the magazine in one day. One of the former editors-in-chief once said, “I was surprised that the issue I spent the least time on was loved by so many people.”
However, there is one rule that you must follow: never blame anyone else if the result goes wrong. It is your choice, your decision. You have to admit all consequences based on your judgment.
