Introduction to Chuncheon
Romantic Lakeside City, Chuncheon
Chuncheon is a city located in the northwestern part of Gangwon Province and is on the westside of the Taebaek Mountains. The city is famous for tourist attractions since three lakes - Lake Uiam, Lake Chuncheon, and Lake Soyang - surround the basket-shaped basin, and people can enjoy those tourist spots along the Soyang Dam side. Chuncheon is also representative of its romantic images which were depicted in Ban Ya-wol’s song Soyang Gang Girl, and the Korean drama Winter Sonata. Anyone Can Enjoy the Activities!
01. Chuncheon Mullegil Canoe
At Lake Uiam, people can experience a special activity called canoeing. It only takes about 13 minutes by car from Chuncheon Station to Mullegil, and there are four courses. The Birch Water Forest Course is a course where people can enjoy the scenery of Lake Uiam full of birch and small water plants and the Water Duck Nest Course is a course where people can watch ducks and ducklings swim. People can experience both these two courses at once on the Uninhabited Island, and finally, the Uninhabited Island Experience Course additionally allows people to explore the island. When trying canoes, the SKT recommends riding facing each other with friends since it is easier to talk than looking in the same direction. As the program provides simple safety education and paddling techniques that are easy to follow, Kingos do not have to worry about safety issues. While riding a canoe, the wonderful view of Lake Uiam and Chuncheon Samak at sunset is especially beautiful, Kingos would be better to check the sunset time and make a reservation in advance.

02. Gangchon Railbike
Gangchon Railbike is highly recommended because people can fall in love with Chuncheon. It is divided into three courses for visitors to choose based on their taste and schedule. First, the Gim Yu-jeong Rail Bike Course starts at Gimyujeong Station, which is two subway stations away from the Chuncheon Station. Gim Yu-jeong Rail Bike Course is the largest railbike course in Korea and is known for its fun course. It is a 6 kilometers (km) course that goes through four tunnels - the Flag Tunnel, the Bubble Tunnel, the Milky Way Tunnel, and the Virtual Reality (VR) Tunnel - and arrives in Nanggu Village. The Milky way Tunnel is especially impressive since it is filled with purple and yellow lights that set up a mysterious atmosphere together. People can enjoy simple snacks while riding the railbike, so it is recommended to purchase a package ticket. After riding the rail bike, people can take the Romance Train to move 2.5km from Nanggu Village to the Gangchon Shuttle Bus Station. This also provides healing by looking at the bridge and River Bukhan. Besides this, there are other courses such as a Gyeonggang Rail Bike Course that starts from Gyeonggang Station and crosses the Bukhangang Railway Bridge, and the Gapyeong Rail Bike Course that starts from Gapyeong Station and crosses the Bukhangang Railway Bridge. Therefore, customized travel that fits each person’s schedule is possible.

01. Soyanggang Skywalk
Soyanggang Skywalk is a tourist attraction that takes about 15 minutes from the Chuncheon Transit Center Station by bus. It is well known for its thrilling scenery of a lake running under the feet because its bottom is wholly made of glass. However, Kingos do not have to be scared because the bottom’s safety is already verified with three layers of special tempered glass. People can look at not only Chuncheon’s two landmarks, Soyang second bridge, and the statue of the Soyanggang Virgin on this skywalk but also the Mandarin Fish Statue on the circular observation deck at the end of the skywalk. In addition, there is an intriguing legend that if people throw a coin in the gap, and the coin is placed on the bridge, their wish will come true. It would be a memorable experience if Kingos personally visited this place and threw coins with their special people. The entrance fee of the skywalk is returned as a Chuncheon Love Gift Certificate, which can be used as cash for Chuncheon’s traditional markets and Myeongdong shopping malls.

02. Gimyujeong Station
Gimyujeong Station is a train station on the Gyeongchun Line. It is named after the writer Gim Yu-jeong who wrote several masterpieces of Korean modern short novels such as Camellia Flowers. The station building was built in the form of the hanok, and the old station was preserved as a monument. There are several railroad fixtures exhibited inside, and people can feel the old atmosphere by looking at the space that is designed like old carriages. There is also the Gim Yu-jeong Literature Village at Gimyujeong Station. Inside the literature village, people can take a look at the writer’s birthplace, which includes Gim Yu-jeong Memorial Exhibition Hall, and the Gim Yu-jeong Storyhouse. The literature village also contains his works in three-dimensional (3D) images and exhibitions. The SKT recommends Gim Yu-jeong’s birthplace for the great scenery of its square-shaped roof house, where Kingos can look at the green trees and high sky of summer. There is also a place where you can experience making traditional crafts such as pottery, so the SKT hopes Kingos can experience various things at Gimyujeong Station.
In Chuncheon, there are various attractions for Kingos who might be tired of harsh final schedules. In particular, you can enjoy the scenery of Chuncheon by walking or riding along the bike path. As summer approaches in June, how about starting your vacation with the view of Lake Uiam?
