The Ministry of Trade Industry and Energy (MOTIE) announced its selection of five universities for the “Biomedical Talent Nurturing Project” on July 21st. The project aims to train innovative human resources in the biomedical industry to strengthen global competitiveness. MOTIE chose Kookmin, Sungkyunkwan, and Woosuk University in the biomedicine field. Meanwhile, two other universities, Gachon and Pusan University, were chosen for the digital health and medical device field. The “Biomedical Talent Nurturing Project” is one of the university’s new and specialized strategies, operated through the cooperation of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and MOTIE. Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) mainly focused on biomedicine and organized specific strategies in three fields: artificial intelligence (AI) clinical database, biomedicine production, and intelligent precision medicine. MOTIE plans to manage an industrial-educational cooperation program in the bio-health field and to produce 125 specialists annually until February 2025 by investing 11 billion won. The project specifically applies field technology to the university curriculum and parallels field practice so that participants can acquire professional skills.
