On September 23rd, the Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) baseball team, led by director Lee Yeon-su, won the 2022 Korea University Sports Federation (KUSF) U-League. The SKKU baseball team defeated Wonkwang University by 12:9 in the final game held at Mokdong Baseball Stadium. A total of 43 universities in Korea participated in the university baseball U-League, and 20 advanced to the tournament finals. This triumph is important, as in 2019, SKKU introduced minimum entrance standards for student-athletes through the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), which means that SKKU started to enroll student-athletes with both academic and athletic excellence. Such an act caused worries that SKKU does not prioritize the exercising abilities of student-athletes, which would lead to lower athletic abilities for SKKU’s sports teams. However, the SKKU baseball team has maintained its status by winning the U-League this year following victories in 2017, 2019, and 2021. The victory of the SKKU baseball team comes as a considerably meaningful result, proving the athletic potential of SKKU sports teams once again.
