Recently, the number of travelers from Korea to Spain has increased as direct flights to Barcelona have been set up from Korea. Portugal, the small country to the west of Spain, however, is still relatively unfamiliar to many people. Meanwhile, Portugal is gradually gaining popularity as a tranquil destination for those who do not want a busy trip. Therefore, the Sungkyun Times (SKT) now introduces Kingos to the tourist attractions of Portugal.
Capital of Portugal, Lisbon
Cabo da Roca
Cabo da Roca, also known as Cape Roca is a cape on the Atlantic coast in Lisbon. It is the westernmost point of the Eurasian continental land area and can be regarded as the kind of “end-ofthe-earth” village of Portugal. Cabo da Roca is involved in the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park that Portugal designated as a preservation zone. Cabo da Roca is famous not only for its symbolic meaning of the westernmost part of the Eurasian continent, but also for its beautiful views of the endless Atlantic Ocean and the sheer cliffs. The cross tower and lighthouse are also attractive factors that lure tourists. The Atlantic Ocean starts from the cross tower and the lighthouse is the third oldest in the world. On the monument of the cross tower, there is a paragraph from the 16th century Portuguese poet Luis de Camoes with a section that reads, “Here the land ends and the ocean starts.” This was quoted from his epic Os Lusiadas. The British poet Byron also frequently visited here and expressed Cabo da Roca to be like the Garden of Eden. The view of the vast Atlantic and nature gives a blissful sense of peace just by looking at it. Recommended to wear long pants and take a thin coat because the wind is strong and wild plants are everywhere. A husband who went to the cliff to try to catch his wife‛s flying hat fell and died. Do not go over the fence near the cliff and watch out for careless selfies!

If Portugal can be represented in color, it can be expressed as soft blue. The intense figure as a powerful sailing country will remind Kingos of a deep blue color, but the clean nature and pure features are reminiscent of white. Although Portugal is a country that is still quiteunfamiliar to many people, it should definitely be the next destination for those who want to get away from the obsession of going on a busy trip and those who want to experience something new.
