Movie: Knocking on Heaven̕s Door
The movie Knocking on Heaven’s Door is a German movie that was released in 1997. It is a story about two men with life-threatening diseases; Rudy is diagnosed with a late stage of bone cancer, and Martin is diagnosed with a late stage brain tumor. Both of them, not having much time left to live, make a last trip together to the beach, which Rudy has never been to. On their journey they steal a car that belongs to the Mafia, rob a bank, and even get kidnapped by the Mafia. After all these troubles, Rudy and Martin finally arrive at the beach.

Knocking on Heaven’s Door conveys two messages to the audience. The first message is the importance and meaning of time passing by. Rudy and Martin knocked on heaven’s door a little bit earlier than the rest of us, but still every single one of us will have to knock on heaven’s door one day; everyone’s clock is ticking and one day it will stop. Therefore, it is important to keep in mind not to let time slip away as if it is nothing. Another message is to have a bucket list. For Rudy and Martin, a bucket list was a hope and joy which made their lives go on even if they did not have enough time left to live. In that context, a bucket list can be a means to fulfill the dreams which had been left aside because of hectic lives.

Exhibition: Monet’s Impression Exhibition

The exhibition to visit in May is Monet’s Impression Exhibition. Claude Monet was a French impressionist artist who is regarded as one of the founders of impressionist art. He is referred to as “a pioneer of impressionism art” because the word “impressionism” was coined after one of his works, Impression, Sunrise. In particular, he painted many works using various depictions of light, which is said to be his trademark. In Monet’s Impression Exhibition, spectators can enjoy the life of Monet and his beautiful works. After being held with great success last year, it has reopened with more works to see according to a number of requests.
Visitors can enjoy the works of Monet in three dimensions (3D), not just in two dimensions (2D). Surrounded by the walls filled with curved screens, spectators can have an experience of being part of the work as if they are inside of it. Furthermore, works shown on the screen do not only stay still but move little by little, so visitors can also have fun finding the differences between the real one and the moving one. The biggest trait of this encore exhibition is the revival of “Garden of Giverny”. As Monet stayed in Giverny for a long time during his life, that time had a huge influence on his style, which even helped to create his nickname, the “Gardener of Giverny”. Since Giverny was an important place to Monet, there are rooms constructed for experiencing Monet’s view. In these rooms, visitors can feel how beautifully and sensitively Monet saw the world.
Book: Hector and the Search for Happiness
|The Book Hector and the Search for Happiness/ book.naver.com|
The book Hector and the Search for Happiness is based on the experiences and thoughts gained by Francois Lelord, a prominent psychiatrist of France, as he treated his patients. Hector and the Search for Happiness became a best-selling book as soon as it was published in 2004. Moreover, it was made into a movie in 2014. As one can infer from the title, it is a book about a successful psychiatrist, Hector. One day, Hector realizes that he is not happy just like his patients, who visit hospital feeling unhappy even though they seemingly have everything they need. Hector, therefore, decides to travel around the world to find out the key to his happiness.

The message that the book wants to give in the end is that “Happiness can be achieved when we find ourselves without comparing.” Hector’s journey begins with a simple yet challenging question: “Am I happy?” At that time, Hector was trying to find happiness in the future, worrying and comparing himself with others. He, however, realizes that the most important thing is the beauty of this current moment that will not come back once it has passed. Kingos also might feel the weight of life sometimes. The SKT, therefore, recommends for Kingos to think about what happiness really is, through reading this book.

One of the reasons to recommend Happy! is its bouncy and bright melody which shows the character of Happy! well. Its melody goes well with the energetic vocals of the female singer. Just by listening to the melody of Happy!, Kingos can feel the happiness and vibrant feeling running through their bodies. Another reason is its lyrics, which are fun but powerful. The song begins with the lyrics of saying “Life is just a bowl of cherries”. It expresses life as a colorful and beautiful thing and shows the message that Happy! wants to give to its fans very well. “Don’t you give up, keep your chin up and be happy”. This is the line that appears the most in the song. Maybe it might look simple, but it is the most important attitude to keep in life. These lyrics can cheer up Kingos who are tired and exhausted, and especially those who are enjoying a beautiful and exciting May, it can be the catalyst for enjoying May a lot more.
