I have always dreamed of traveling abroad for a year. I would like to have deeper experiences overseas than just visiting famous tourist attractions for the holidays. Therefore, I thought of living in Korea for quite a long time. Since I was young, I have had a great interest in Asia. Japanese culture attracted me at first, as it was the most popular and accessible Asian culture in France, my home country. As time went by, however, I became more and more interested in knowing about Korea and discovering its culture. In France, Korea is mostly known for K-pop, K-dramas, and K-beauty products, but I wanted to experience more than these.
Coming to Korea as an exchange student is one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. Since I liked Korean culture even before I came to Korea, I was more than happy to experience the real Korea. Coming here not only did I realize one of my dreams, but also it allowed me to open my eyes to the world, and broaden my mind. Confronting differences between my native culture and other cultures changed me a lot. Everything including society, people, relationships, and norms but consumption habits in Korea are different from French culture. Sharing my experiences and my ideas with people from all around the world made me become a better me. I would not be able to have such experiences if I had not come to Korea as an exchange student. It is one of the biggest achievements I made in my life.
If Kingos are interested in going abroad, as exchange students or just by themselves, don’t hesitate and just go for it. You will have an extraordinary experience, which may be one of the best experiences of your life. So take the chance whenever you can, because, after all, we only live once.
