The unexpected longevity of the COVID-19 outbreak is affecting individuals all over the world in many different ways. Most businesses, establishments, and institutions have essentially been forced to halt operations for an indefinite period of time, and Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) was no exception. Following the announcement regarding the adaptation of a new lecture format for the entire semester, there have been many complaints and concerns raised by SKKU’s student body, and in an attempt to improve Kingos’ mental health during this prolonged period of social distancing, SKKU’s 52nd student council Iruri has taken it upon themselves to organize various online activities. One of the more prominent projects being promoted by Iruri is the Smooth Sailing at SKKU campaign, which has been receiving positive attention from students. The campaign is being conducted in small waves and consists of smaller activities that Iruri refers to as episodes. Episode 1, which was entitled “SKKU Class” — a reference to the widely popular television drama Itaewon Class that aired earlier this year — was an event held to encourage students to continue pursuing their hobbies despite the current circumstances. Any student of SKKU was eligible to take part in this event, and all that was needed to be done in order to join was to post either a photograph or a video of their hobby onto Instagram. There have been further episodes held since the introduction of the campaign, and it has been very effective at keeping students engaged, especially during a time when social interaction is being heavily compromised. Iruri plans on hosting more episodes to continue promoting their project, and they have been receiving much support from the student body.
