On October 2nd, President Donald Trump was diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). After Trump’s diagnosis, people who worked close to the president also turned out to be infected with COVID-19. One of Trump’s assistants, Nick Luna tested positive after traveling with him. Additionally, Trump’s press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany also tested positive along with two other workers who had worked with Kayleigh McEnany. On September 26th, when the Trump administration pushed ahead the Rose Garden celebration of the conservative judge Amy Coney Barrette’s nomination to the Supreme Court, people who attended the celebration, including Trump, did not wear masks properly. At the celebration, there were nearly 150 people gathered together. After the Rose Garden celebration, many people who attended the event tested positive for COVID-19 such as former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Senator Mike Lee. Approximately 10 workers who work in the White House also got infected with COVID-19, and the White House has been turned into a ghost town. As Trump and the people who have been in close contact with him have started to selfquarantine upon being diagnosed with COVID-19, there is currently only a minimum number of people guarding the White House. While the White House showed its fragility to COVID-19 and the seriousness of the pandemic, it continues to neglect the fundamental measures of preventing the spread of COVID-19 which is wearing masks indoors.
