On November 10th, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) pre-announced the amendment of the Enforcement Decree of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act. Starting December 30th, no personal information may be disclosed when the government informs the route of confirmed cases including the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was pointed out that authorities and local governments violated the personal privacy of confirmed cases by disclosing their gender, age, and address. Therefore, the amendment will now prohibit the disclosure of personal information such as name, gender, age, and specific address which are not related to the infectious disease. In addition, facilities that do not comply with the prevention guidelines, such as wearing masks and listing visitors, can be suspended or closed. A facility can be warned for a first offense, suspended for 10 days for a second violation, and suspended for 20 days for a third. Facilities are to be closed if they are caught operating during the suspension period. The amendment also includes providing psychological and financial support to help patients, their families, and medical personnel suffering from depression due to the pandemic.
