SKKU Fashion Design Department Partners with Green Continue
Last March, Sungkyunkwan University’s (SKKU) Department of Fashion Design signed an industry-academia partnership with Green Continue, an ecofriendly fabric research and development company that pioneered cactus leather in South Korea. The partnership, aimed at nurturing future leaders in sustainable fashion, will allow students to explore zero-waste pattern techniques using Green Continue’s cactus leather in the Zero-Waste Fashion Capstone Design course. Zero-waste pattern design is a technique that eliminates fabric waste by ensuring that no excess material is generated during the cutting process, making it a key approach in sustainable fashion. This hands-on learning experience will give students valuable opportunities to research and experiment with sustainable fashion practices. Students who complete the said course will present their work at a zero-waste fashion exhibition scheduled to take place at the Sungkyun Gallery in June. Outstanding projects will also be selected through a joint evaluation by professors from the Department of Fashion Design and representatives from Green Continue. Scholarships, provided by Green Continue, will be awarded to the selected works, encouraging students to continue their research in sustainable fashion design. The initiative marks a meaningful step toward integrating ecofriendly values into fashion education and practice.
