Crossing Borders with Versatility
Q1. Please introduce yourself.
My name is Amy — my official name is Vanatda, but everyone has called me Amy since birth. I am from Laos and currently majoring in business administration at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) through the Global Korea Scholarship. Beyond academics, I have explored many creative interests such as dance, art, and influencer collaborations. These experiences have given me confidence, creativity, and adaptability. Now, I bring that versatility into my academic and professional life, blending creativity with business to make meaningful contributions.
Q2. What has been the most challenging moment in your life?
One of the most challenging moments in my life was deciding which path to follow. I have always loved doing many things, and pursuing them all often left me uncertain about where I belonged. Over time, I realized these experiences were assets, providing me with a creative edge and teaching me discipline and confidence. This challenge showed me that versatility is not confusion but a strength that helps me stand out.
Q3. Can you share a time when you stepped out of your comfort zone?
Taking on a leadership role in S-LINK (SKKU Learn, Interact, Network, Know), SKKU’s international student support organization, pushed me beyond my comfort zone. I had to manage a large team, coordinate events, and speak to students from diverse backgrounds. At first, I was nervous, but I was motivated by a desire to create a welcoming environment for international freshmen and by the strong support of my executive team. I realized leadership is not about standing alone, but about guiding and amplifying the strengths of others.
Q4. What drew you to the marketing industry, and what are your future goals?
I first became interested in marketing during an internship at Sinouk Coffee, a leading premium coffee brand in Laos. There, I saw how digital campaigns could directly influence consumers. Later, I started doing influencer collaborations and brand photoshoots, which helped me understand marketing from both a creative and personal perspective. These experiences sparked my passion for storytelling and building connections between brands and people. In the future, I plan to run a lifestyle or fashion brand that combines creativity and technology — a brand that not only sells products but also creates a community that people feel connected to.
