Seol Ki Hyeon Appointed as New Coach of Korean Men’s Soccer Team

The Korea Football Association has announced that Seol KiHyeon, the football coach at SKKU, will join the national soccer team which is led by Uli Stielike, as a new coach. Seol Ki-Hyeon was a soccer player who played for the Korean national team as a forward for 10 years from 2000. He also participated in the 2002 Korea-Japan World cup, as well as the 2006 German World cup, helping lead the team to the quarter finals. In 2015, Seol Ki-Hyeon was appointed as head coach of the soccer team at SKKU. After Seol Ki-Hyeon took over as coach of SKKU soccer team, he led his team to the quarter finals during the autumn university league that year, and to the finals of the Grand Prix Final of the U league which is the biggest college soccer tournament. Moreover, in 2016, the SKKU soccer team reached the round of the final 16 in the FA Cup which was a big success for a college soccer team. Seol KiHyeon’s achievements have shown the successful figure of a leader achieving remarkable results in just a year after his appointment. The contract between Seol Ki-Hyeon, and the national team will last for a year and a half. Last year, the previous coach Shin TaeYong transferred to another national team after guiding the team through the preliminarily rounds of the Russia World Cup in the Asian region. Since Shin Tae-Yong left the national team, the coach position had been vacant for a year. Seol Ki-Hyeon matched Stielike’s requirements, and he was offered the position with the team until Stilike’s contract expires. SKKU has announced that Seol Ki-Hyeon will begin the national coaching position after completing his work for the spring university league in March.
