On August 27th, Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU)’s Central Library received the President’s Award for Top Institution from the Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS) at a ceremony held at Yonsei University’s Baekyang-Nuri (The Commons). KERIS is a public institution under the Ministry of Education that actively works with university libraries across Korea to improve access to information and resources. These resources are distributed through the Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), which many Korean universities use to easily access and share academic materials. In its 2025 annual evaluation, KERIS assessed university libraries based on criteria such as comprehensive catalog development, interlibrary loan services, and the distribution of original texts. SKKU’s Central Library was selected for its wide accessibility to academic resources and strong information-sharing capabilities, as the library maintains approximately 2.3 million volumes of resources. Furthermore, the Central Library has been expanding its information distribution by collaborating with other universities and institutions. Its recognition as Top Institution reflects SKKU’s efforts to establish an efficient and high-quality resource distribution system. Professor Choi Hyoung-kee, who is the current director of SKKU’s Central Library, remarked at the awards ceremony that the library will continue to work towards expanding resource accessibility.
