Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) celebrated its 627th anniversary with a ceremony on September 24th at the New Millennium Hall on the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus (HSSC). In his speech, President Yoo Ji-beom expressed gratitude to all members of the SKKU community for their dedication toward realizing the university’s vision of bold challenges for humanity and the future society. This year’s ceremony carried special meaning, as it was the first to take place in the newly renovated New Millennium Hall. The program mainly consisted of congratulating SKKU members with various awards, including the Teaching Award, President’s List, Administrative Innovation Incentive and Merit Awards, as well as long-service recognitions. Among these, the SKKU Teaching Award, established in 2011, honors instructors who have significantly enhanced the quality of education, with 134 recipients recognized to date. The President’s List, meanwhile, identifies students who embody self-direction, creativity, and a spirit of challenge, thereby positively influencing others and exemplifying the SKKU Student Success model. The ceremony concluded with a celebratory performance by the SK Chorus, SKKU’s representative student choir club, followed by the singing of the university anthem all together. Not only toward did faculty, staff, and students join the celebration, but friends and families also attended, with many taking commemorative photos at the photo wall near the hall entrance. The event closed in a warm and festive atmosphere.
